Summer is fast approaching! (OK, so this is hopeful thinking...) I would like to get feedback on your interest in the following Fly-in possibilities, plus any others that interest you:
IFR Flyout for VFR Pilots:
BFC has possibly the highest concentration of private IFR pilots anywhere in Canada, but many of our members have never experienced a flight in "The System". This flyout would feature IFR pilots hosting VFR pilot-passengers on an IFR flight to somewhere with an ILS and food. Even members of Billy Lowe's "No IFR" club can come. See what all the fuss is about. Summer date to be decided. Lets hope for some cloudy weather!
Bahamas and Sun 'n Fun:
Sun 'n Fun will be served up at Lakeland Florida April 13-18, 2010. The suggestion is to depart for the Bahamas at the beginning of April. Easter is April 4, so departure that weekend or shortly after (April 5?), then Lakeland on the way back. Some of you may have already seen my accommodation offer at ImperiaLakes. Bahamas Billy Lowe will be calling a planning meeting for this soon.
Dayton Air Show: July 17-18, 2010
Located at Dayton International Airport
Website: http://www.usats.org/
http://www.usats.org/pages/04_guestInfo/FlyIn.html
We could make this part of an air adventure, and tie in a tour to other items along the route, such as Pelee Island, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame or other Ohio highlights. Sporty's Pilot Store, anyone?
Oshkosh: July 26 - August 1, 2010
Website: http://www.airventure.org/
Highlights this year are a visit by one of Paul Hayes' favourites, Hawk One, a Canadair Sabre jet painted in Golden Hawks team attire. Also featured is the 50th anniversary of the Piper Cherokee.
Killarney Picnic in June...
Famous for its fish n chips, there is also a classic lighthouse at the south end of the channel about 20 minutes' walk from the airport. A beautiful spot for a picnic. Lets pack our hampers and cameras and try this.
Suggested date: Saturday June 26, 2010 with a rain date on the 27th. That gives the black flies a chance to get out of town.
I'd also like to know if anyone is interested in a Killarney getaway. We would book a block of rooms at the newly renovated Sportsman's Inn for an overnight, including a canoe excursion in Killarney Provincial Park. George Lake is a beauty!
Montreal International Jazz Festival: June 25 to July 6, 2010
Fly to St Hubert (unless you have money to burn, in which case, try Trudeau's $35 landing fees and $55/day ramp fees) and we'll spend a weekend in Old Montreal. I have some serious discount shlep with Fairmont Hotels (Queen Elizabeth), but there are lots of other choices. let's pick some dates and try this out. There is so much street entertainment at Place des Arts plaza, you can see a lot without even buying a ticket to a show. The July holiday weekend seems like a good time for this. And of course, BFC members will have to sample some of Montreal's fabulous restaurants. We fly for food!
